Now for the difficult part.
It's not just enough to expose ourselves to Scripture. James calls us to be doers of the Word also!
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
Now that you know what Scripture says - meditate on it. Say the words over and over in your mind. Really think on the meaning of the Words. If you have posted notes with verses written on them around your house, kept your Bible open in high traffic areas, or are playing worship songs about God's Word in your house, don't let it merely become another part of your home's decor. It's easy to allow these things to blend in along with the paint colour on our walls.
Really fix your attention on the words. Actually pray these verses back to God when you read them. Stop. Think on the way and Word of God.
So why all of this reminding? Why do we have to keep reading the same thing over and over for the rest of our lives?
How many of us remember what the pastor spoke on last Sunday? What did you read in your quiet time just yesterday?
Are you still wondering why? What's the alternative? There is no middle ground. Either you are on the path of the godly, or the path of the counsel of the wicked (Psalm 1). Scripture doesn't talk about a third path.
The alternative to having the Word of Christ dwell in us richly? (The counsel of the godly)... well, your mind will be filled with something, it's wired that way. And anything less than the Word of God, is the god of the world.
"But I just don't have time."
What are you delighting in today? What are going back to over and over, without effort. What have you penciled into your daytimer to make sure you are reminded it get done?
We make time for things we delight in.
