May Reads
Despite the busyness of preparing for our departure, May was a big reading month for me! I was pulling lots of things out of my closet to re-organize, and I found quite a few books I wanted to get read before we left. Bright Island, and Fuzzy Mud were two of those books. My daughter was reading Red Sand, Blue Sky for English so I read that along with her. And Becoming Mrs. Lewis was left at my house last fall by my M-I-L. I have really enjoyed this Patti Callahan book. I'm finding the story between Joy Grisham and C.S. Lewis a fascinating and complicated one. Another reminder that oftentimes there are no easy answers to life's problems.

I had heard about Introverted Mom by Jamie C. Martin on Read Aloud Revival and Life With Sally so that was an easy choice. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book on audible. And for some reason, I didn't learn, until I was into it, that Jamie served on Mercy Ships years ago! I love that. :) I think I already knew I was more of introvert than an extrovert, but listening to this book really helped me see what a blessing being an introvert can really be. One is not better than the other.

Because I really respect and enjoy Sally Clarkson's ministry and all of the books I have read by her, I decided to also try her newest book, Different. It was co-written by her and her son Nathan whom she calls her "out of the box" child. The two take turns writing chapters and present their points of view on raising a "different" child, and being the different child. I love the two perspectives. Even though I haven't identified having a different child in the same way that Sally experienced, being exposed to this book is helping me to realize that even my observations of other parents and their children must be seasoned with extra grace. There is no way for me to know the nuances and challenges of those parent-child relationships. And it's easy for me to observe and assess without really knowing fully. I must stop that. As well, this book has fantastic points of giving grace toward our kids even if they don't present as "different." Together Nathan and Sally are covering many topics, and I will continue to go through this one in the month of June.
